Business Unit Manager, South Atlantic
Ready to lead and grow a South Atlantic sales team? Coach talent, build customer partnerships, and bring more play and active living to communities across the region.
THE ROLE
KOMPAN U.S. is looking for a Business Unit (BU) Manager to lead the South Atlantic Business Unit, covering Maryland, Washington, D.C., Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina.
The BU Manager owns the region’s commercial results and leads a team of 8 Direct Territory Representatives, including a Market Development Lead (MDL) who leads a POD and a Fitness representative, with one open seat to fill.
The focus of this role is on coaching and developing the team to achieve sales targets, recruiting and onboarding new representatives, and executing business development strategies to aggressively grow market share in an approximately $339M market where KOMPAN holds roughly 6% today.
This is a leadership role measured on the results of the entire region rather than a personal book of business. The BU Manager brings Sales, Project Management, and Architectural Design together as one local team, working close to the customer.
The BU Manager also coordinates the efforts of Project Managers and Architectural Designers to execute KOMPAN’s triangular offense sales tactics, driving increased quote level, win rate, and gross profit. Project Managers and Architectural Designers are embedded within the Business Unit while reporting directly to their respective functional directors.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Own the region’s quote level, order intake, turnover, win rate, GP %, and growth against budget.
Lead, coach, and develop 8 Direct Territory Representatives through multistep, long-cycle sales processes of approximately 9–18 months, working through the MDL and POD structure.
Recruit, hire, and onboard new representatives, including the open seat, to strengthen sales density and market coverage.
Operate as one local team across Sales, Project Management, and Architectural Design, partnering closely with the regional Operations lead and Architectural Designers.
Build and maintain a healthy, collaborative, high-performing culture that works effectively across supporting and embedded functions.
Build and execute the annual regional business plan, including territory coverage, customer segments such as parks & recreation, schools, and housing, key accounts, landscape architect specification, and pricing discipline.
Lead the monthly regional business review, covering results, pipeline, key wins and losses, and actions required to close performance gaps.
Drive one consistent way of selling through a common sales process, strong CRM discipline, accurate forecasting, and partnership with Sales Enablement.
Partner with Multi-Channel teams, including National Accounts, Bid/Tender, Inside Sales, and Fitness, to ensure national programs and field sales reinforce one another.
Lead joint sales calls on key opportunities and resolve customer escalations and open commercial issues, including aged receivables.
Set clear performance expectations; plan, monitor, appraise, and review performance, and act promptly when expectations are not being met.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
College degree.
10+ years of successful B2B sales experience, including 5+ years leading a direct field sales team.
Proven track record of growing a multi-state territory and consistently delivering against sales targets.
Experience working in an activity-based, CRM-driven sales environment, using pipeline, forecasting, and performance data to run the business.
Experience with long-cycle B2B sales to public and private sector customers, ideally within outdoor infrastructure, commercial recreation, or a related industry.
Demonstrated experience building and developing a sales team within a high-growth market.
Knowledge of the Mid-Atlantic and Carolinas markets and specifier community preferred.
Ability and willingness to travel regularly throughout the region.
