Business Unit Manager, Mid-Atlantic
Ready to lead and grow a Mid-Atlantic sales team? Coach talent, build customer partnerships, and bring more play and active living to communities across the region.
The Role
KOMPAN U.S. is looking for a Business Unit Manager (BU Manager) to lead our Mid-Atlantic Business Unit, covering New Jersey, eastern and central Pennsylvania, and Delaware.
The BU Manager owns the region’s commercial performance and leads a team of 7 Direct Territory Representatives, including a Market Development Lead (MDL) who leads a POD. The team currently has two open positions to fill, including one focused on Fitness.
This is a true sales leadership role. Rather than managing an individual book of business, the BU Manager is accountable for the performance and development of the entire region. You’ll coach and develop the sales team, recruit and onboard new representatives, and execute business development strategies designed to aggressively grow KOMPAN’s market share in an approximately $251M market where KOMPAN currently holds roughly 6%.
You’ll bring Sales, Project Management, and Architectural Design together as one local team, working closely across functions to deliver an exceptional customer experience and stronger commercial results.
The BU Manager will also coordinate closely with Project Managers and Architectural Designers to execute our triangular offense sales strategy, increasing quote levels, win rates, and gross profit. Project Managers and Architectural Designers are embedded within the Business Unit while reporting directly to their respective functional leaders.
What You’ll Do
Own the region’s quote level, order intake, turnover, win rate, gross profit percentage, and growth against budget.
Lead, coach, and develop a team of 7 Direct Territory Representatives through complex, multi-step sales cycles that typically span 9–18 months.
Work through the Market Development Lead and POD structure to strengthen sales execution, accountability, and territory performance.
Recruit, hire, and onboard new sales representatives, including the open Fitness position, to build sales density and market coverage.
Create one collaborative local team across Sales, Project Management, and Architectural Design, partnering closely with regional Operations and Design.
Build a healthy, high-performing culture that collaborates effectively with supporting and embedded functions.
Develop and execute the annual regional business plan, including territory coverage, customer segments, key accounts, landscape architect specification, and pricing discipline.
Drive growth across key customer segments, including parks and recreation, schools, and housing.
Lead monthly regional business reviews covering results, pipeline, key wins and losses, and actions required to close performance gaps.
Establish a consistent approach to selling through a common sales process, strong CRM discipline, accurate forecasting, and partnership with Sales Enablement.
Collaborate with Multi-Channel teams, including National Accounts, Bid/Tender, Inside Sales, and Fitness, to ensure national programs and field sales efforts reinforce one another.
Participate in joint sales calls for key opportunities and strategic accounts.
Resolve customer escalations and open commercial issues, including aged receivables.
Set clear performance expectations, monitor results, provide ongoing coaching and feedback, and act promptly when performance falls below expectations.
What You’ll Need
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent college degree.
10+ years of successful B2B sales experience, including at least 5 years leading a direct field sales team.
Proven track record of growing a multi-state sales territory and consistently delivering against sales targets.
Experience working in an activity-based, CRM-driven sales environment, using pipeline, forecasting, and performance data to manage the business.
Experience with complex, long-cycle B2B sales across public and private sector customers.
Experience in outdoor infrastructure, commercial recreation, or a similar industry is strongly preferred.
Demonstrated success building and developing sales teams in high-growth markets.
Knowledge of the New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware markets and specifier community is preferred.
Ability and willingness to travel regularly throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
